VOLVO CAR – DESIGN AND DELIVERY OF BODY IN WHITE FIXTURES

Body in White (BiW) production and layout planning of the joining / gluing processes for the Polestar PS1. The customer's task was to validate the complete BiW production process from the planning phase through the prototype phase to the realisation of series production in Chengdu, China. 

The following project scope was covered: 

• Assuring the production-ready construction for gluing processes 

• Definition of the clamping and fixing concept as well as positioning 

• Design, delivery and commissioning of the joining fixtures 

• Digital validation of the kinematics in the fixtures to guarantee a defined joining process 

• Specification and drafting of specifications for robot-assisted gluing cells 

• Digital validation of accessibility for the introduction of additional mechanical joining elements 

• Definition and screening of NDT methods for the non-destructive testing of glued joints 

• Concept development for a process for accelerated adhesive hardening 

• Implementation and moderation of a process FMEA for the BiW area
