Engineering and system components for production plants have always formed a symbiotic unit. In the future, the challenges posed by smart solutions in production and logistics will call for intensified cooperation between these two subject areas in the early project stages of developments. Motivated by these considerations, EDAG Production Solutions GmbH & Co. KG (EDAG PS) and SEW-EURODRIVE GmbH & Co KG have entered into a cooperation to enable them to provide integrated production solutions for the automotive and non-automotive industries in the future.
In the sector, both companies are regarded as heavyweights in their respective fields.
EDAG PS is an international full-service provider in the field of production engineering. The EDAG Group subsidiary offers 360-degree engineering for the development of highly efficient manufacturing sites and plants, from planning and virtual commissioning through to hand over to the operating company. With more than 50 years' experience as a general planner and contractor for manufacturers in the automotive industry, the company has expanded its portfolio in the smart factory sector enormously in recent years.
Founded in 1931, SEW-EURODRIVE is one of the world's leaders in the field of system components, providing geared motors, industrial gear units, decentralised technology, servo technology, software, but also control engineering and functional safety. With its MAXOLUTION® brand, SEW-EURODRIVE is also adding weight to its portfolio for smart system solutions for logistics and production planning and for mobile assistance and rail-guided transport and assembly systems. MAXOLUTION® stands for innovative engineering for entire factories – locally at customers' sites all around the world. The two companies' all-round ranges of services complement each other perfectly.
"At the end of the day, what customers want is not products, but solutions," emphasises Dirk Keller (CEO of EDAG PS). "With our experience as a general contractor in plant engineering, we can offer not just our project management skills, experience in logistics planning, robot technology and safety engineering, but above all our expertise in the integration of system components in the plant. For the end customers of both the EDAG Group and SEW-EURODRIVE, this creates real added value." The integrated solution provides additional process reliability for a functioning overall concept in smart production. In terms of market development, too, the cooperation offers both companies great potential.
"SEW-EURODRIVE is one of the world's leading system suppliers of production plants and automation solutions in heterogeneous sectors. Here, we can provide EDAG PS with market access, especially in the non-automotive industry. Through the synergies between engineering and component know-how, both companies can take their all-round problem solving skills to a new level. To put it in a nutshell, we have strength for two," explains Frank Höreth, (SEW-EURODRIVE – Head of MAXOLUTION® System Solutions – Business Development).
